Penang Georgetown - Weld Quay Bai Tian Gong Festival

It is the midnight of day 8th of first lunar calendar (The 8th day of Chinese New Year). It is known as Hokkien people pray for the sky god "Bai Tian Gong Festival".

Actually in this tradition can related back with the history back in Ming Dynasty where the bandit raid had intruder the Hokkien province. Some Hokkien people begin robbed and their village begin burn. Some survive had hide their self in the sugarcane field. On the ninth day of the Chinese New Year the hokkiens happily emerged their self from the sugarcane field after they knew the intruder had give up for searching for they. Having notice the ninth day of the Chinese New Year is the birthday of the heaven god. Therefore they decided makinf votive offerings and prayers to the Jade Emperor for the salvation with a pair of Sugar Cane. The are many more version of Hokkiens "Bai Tian Gong" story but anyway all the entity had join together in this meaningful celebration. So said the eve of the ninth day of CNY is eventually more happening on the first day of CNY. No doubt this year dear and me came to Chew Jetty to join together for the celebration. It is so crowded advise not to take any vehicle here. Check the photo below you will know what we mean :)
